Peter Cat with guest St. Purple & Velvet at Northern Guitars
Peter Cat is a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist from Glasgow, Scotland who has been making lyrical, ornamental pop music since 2015 while dressed like that mildly attractive supply teacher you once had for Standard Grade geography.
His poetic, studiously crafted songs are as sure to appeal to fans of The Divine Comedy, John Grant and Rufus Wainwright as they are to disappoint anyone looking for a comprehensive explanation of glacial erosion.
Support from: St. Purple & Velvet
St. Purple & Velvet is a solo artist/producer hailing from Leeds, England. His music is self proclaimed romantic trash swamped in irony and a persona created directly from the internet.
Join us to see the freshest bands on the Leeds scene! Acts tbc.
Robbie Thompson at Northern Guitars
Reflective, lyric driven folk, inspired by the post-industrial North of England.
"As member of much-travelled collective The Buffalo Skinners, Robbie Thompson is one part of a whole who spend their time traversing folk, rock, blues and country with a Yorkshire grounding. In his solo work, however, he takes several steps back from the Skinners’ full-bodied, rumbling storytelling and instead uses songs to pick out moments, giving them room to breathe."

"Joe Martin is an artist who knows who he wants to be and has a voice of his own, a rare original glimmer in a sea of Nashville wannabes” - Six Shooter Country

"On his own he leaves audiences spellbound with his dazzling instrumental skills, startling old-school vocals (Imagine Buddy Holly sitting on a porch in the Appalachians) and tall tales. " -The Blues Magazine UK
"Darren Eedens and the Slim Pickin's from Cardiff, Wales revive the late 80's, early 90's alt-country or cow-punk genre before the more all-including term Americana was created. Deeply rooted in traditional country and mountain music but presented with an edgier punk-energy, switching from guitar to banjo, "Rye Whisky" was a standout from their soon to be released self-titled debut on April, 12.

4th Labyrinth at Northern Guitars
4TH LABYRINTH are an award winning band from Cambridge with a classic approach to rock music, drawing influences from the most colourful period of rock music - the 1970's.
The group comprises experienced musicians from the Cambridge session scene who have previously played together in other constellations. 2016 marked the year of their debut album Quattro Stagioni which was released to much critical acclaim and airplay on UK's radio stations across the country, including the BBC. Over the next two years Quattro Stagioni was toured extensively, with the band sharing stages with artists like Focus, FM and Carl Palmer's ELP Legacy.
With two singles, the 2nd album release and many live performances confirmed, 2018 promises to be yet another busy year for the five musicians.
Known for their engaging and witty live shows, the band has acted as main support for the likes of Wishbone Ash and Dan Reed. Their highly approachable rock sound makes them incredibly versatile, keeping the listener's attention throughout. From heavy guitar riffs to the most delicate heartfelt ballads, from progressive rock monsters to future sing along classics, 4th Labyrinth's mission is to bring back rock music to where it deserves to be.
Pink Peg Slax at Northern Guitars
"If Elvis had been a Marx Brother, he would have invented Pink Peg Slax" (James Brown, NME) "Plangent, Cajun-tinged Jiveabilly" (John Peel) With a name derived from an obscure Eddie Cochran rocker, Pink Peg Slax promise rockabilly revivalism, but these veterans of the Leeds 80s music scene want you to feel the power of rock but grin while you're at it. Borne out of punk and inspired by Glam, the Slax line-up were original members of the Mekons, the Sisters of Mercy and The Gang of Four. Celebrated by John Peel and Andy Kershaw (4 Radio 1 sessions), the NME (3 singles and 2 albums gained 5-star reviews) and TV chef Keith Floyd (who wrote sleeve notes) Pink Peg Slax knocked out 100% original tunes with a deft rockabilly-cajun approach. Pink Peg Slax provided the necessary knowing wink to counter the gothic scowl on the face of indie music in the mid-80s. The Smiths released Meat Is Murder; the Slax released Eat More Meat. The only band ever to offer James Cagney impressions as serious musical output on night-time Radio One, Pink Peg Slax busked their way onto C4's The Tube, annoyed legions of Goths by supporting The Mission on tour and wrote songs about drunken pigs, deaf railwaymen, murderous Frenchmen and Holsten Pils. Frontman Vince Berkeley once thanked an audience of fairground workers for not being "gippos", told an indifferent audience in Dusseldorf to "go away and make some chemicals" and if spat on by the audience, would spit back. And yet the band's Roman Catholicism led to album reviews in The Universe, the premier UK religious weekly. And now Pink Peg Slax have re-grouped, discovered Facebook and some of them have retained their hair.
The Lost Souls at Northern Guitars
The Lost Souls are a two piece (guitar/bass) band playing mostly original material along with the odd Clash, Joy Division, Gang of Four cover. Some describe them as ‘Post Punk’. That’s quite a broad brush but seeing as they are both self confessed old punk rockers who still like to rattle out spirited 3 minute wonders, it fits well enough. They keep things simple but effective. No twiddly guitar solos or overblown effects but plenty beat through their drum machine, bass rhythm and guitar drive. Brooding dark wave numbers fit alongside infectious punk rattlers all performed with feeling, drawing an audience in with subtle stage craft and excellent vocal arrangements.

Zanibar Aliens at Northern Guitars
The Zanibar Aliens are four piece rock band based in Portugal, Lisbon. Their sound reminds you of the classic rock’n’roll bands from the 70’s but mixed up with some other interesting elements like classical music and jazz.
Carl Karlsson ( lead vocals, keyboards) and Filipe Karlsson (guitar, vocals) are the swedish part of the band. Diogo Braga (drums) and Ricardo Pereira (bass) are the Portuguese part. The band released their first songs online in 2012 and their first demo album “Zanibar Aliens I” which was only available online with no physical format. Their first official album was released in 2015, titled “Bela Vista”, it was recorded in Namouche Studios Lisbon, this one being available online and in the CD format. Since then, the band has played some major festivals in Portugal, such as NOS Alive, Vodafone Paredes de Coura and EDP Vilar de Mouros. In 2017 they drove all the way to England to record their second album titled “Space Pigeon”, which was recorded in only two days at Factory Road Studios in Eastleigh. Later on they took their 1989 Ford transit to go on their first legit European tour. In 2019 "Zanibar Aliens III" is released, this is the band's third studio album, it was recorded in three different locations but most of it was done in their studio at home. This album features their classic rock n' roll sound that band is known for but introducing some new ideas to mix like bossa nova and samba, which you can hear right away in the opening track "All i need is you".
Brodie Milner (w/ Will Killen) at Northern Guitars
Brodie Milner (w/ Will Killen) at Northern Guitars Cafe Bar.
"Brodie Milner wears his songs like an ill fitted suit. Combining intelligent lyricism with intricate melodies, his music feels nuanced, evocative, and a bit too sad for a summer's party. Listeners can expect to hear influences from the likes of John Martyn, Sharon Van Etten, and some old novelists you might not have heard of."
"Will Killen paints intimate soundscapes of love, loss, and mental battles with his unique pallet. After captivating millions online with the self produced debut EP Write You Out, Killen has taken to the road to showcase his 3-piece band, combining the most intimate moments with larger-than-life soundscapes."
The Milk Lizards + Onlooker at Northern Guitars
The Milk Lizards are Sunderland’s premier instrumental surf rock trio. Embracing the traditional elements of surf music; clean guitar drenched in reverb on top of a driving rhythm section, The Milk Lizards bring a splash of punk ethos to their no frills take on this often forgotten, niche genre.
No singing means The Milk Lizards are the perfect party band. Playing danceable, feel good tunes that make you think of the beach on a sunny day. If you’ve got a plug socket, The Lizards can rock it. House party, BBQ, wedding, beach party, anywhere! If you’re looking for something slightly off the wall to keep your guests entertained, The Milk Lizards could just be what you’re looking for.
Formed in September 2017 Onlooker is comprised of members from Ankles, First Process Church of Mars, Jimmy Floyd Hassleband and Lifeless, amongst many more.
Based in Teesside they have currently played a handful of shows around the North East and are soon to release their debut self titled EP due out on Sunderland based Serial Bowl Records. Beyond that they are writing and recording a full length release which should be due summer 2019.
Onlooker take influence bands such as Fugazi, Drive Like Jehu, Oh Sees and Eddy Current Suppression Ring among many others. They have developed a garage type sound utilizing everything at their disposal in a short, sharp format. Angry songs in a major key.

Tim Holehouse with Malcolm Tent & Richie Smith at Northern Guit
I've been in loads of bands over the years. From the age of 15 with Electric Dissarria to Among The Missing.
So why have I gone solo... Well I have been messing round with songs away from whatever current band I'm in for about 7-8 years now. I guess just to satisfy myself more than anything. I never thought I would release a solo record or tour my stuff. I did the odd acoustic show and released stuff under the guise of The Host Sepia.

Birds and Beasts at Northern Guitars
If David Attenborough was in a band...
Imagine a parallel universe where David Attenborough left the BBC in 1969, moved to California, grew his hair and joined a band. Stories of survival, betrayal and devotion from the animal kingdom inspire their memorable songs. Birds and the Beasts are evolving fast. Catch them while you can and then release them back into the wild.
Stuck in a log cabin during a snowstorm in Germany with only a guitar, the idea of Birds and Beasts was born. The struggles, triumphs and heartbreaks in our own lives are reflected through the prism of the animal kingdom. Our mission is to bring our neat pop music to the ears of animal lovers and music lovers everywhere.
